Stylist

The role of a stylist is responsible for the visual presentation of clothing and products.

They consult with clients to understand their vision or event and create outfits and settings based on the consultation. There are different types of stylists:

  • Personal stylists handle the styling of one or a few individuals, with expertise in their personal style and desired expression.

  • E-commerce stylists are responsible for styling images and videos for online shopping.

  • Photoshoot stylists handle styling for photoshoots, e.g., for magazines.

  • Runway stylists are responsible for styling for fashion shows.

  • Product stylists style products and their settings, such as perfumes and jewelry.

  • Film/TV stylists handle the styling of people in film, television, and theatre.

Makeup artist

A makeup artist is responsible for transforming a person’s appearance using cosmetic products based on a given vision. These artists work across various industries:

  • Fashion: Responsible for makeup at photoshoots, fashion shows, and other fashion-related events. Makeup artists can also be found in retail, where they consult with customers and offer product trials.

  • Film, TV, and Theatre: This often involves more dramatic makeup to create the appearance of different characters, including creatures, wounds, and scars.

  • Beauty salons: Provide makeup styling for private clients.

Hairstylist

A hair stylist is responsible for the visual presentation of hair. Therefore, a hair stylist’s duties include cutting, coloring, and styling hair, as well as advising on hair care and maintenance. Hair stylists work in salons, clinics, or within the fashion industry. In the fashion industry, hair stylists collaborate with fashion stylists to create a cohesive look based on an overall vision.

Photography

A fashion photographer uses their technical expertise to capture images of products and models.
They have knowledge of angles, cameras, lenses, and lighting to take photos that align with the client’s vision and communicate the intended message. They are also responsible for editing the images to ensure the correct resolution and color balance.

Model

Models are responsible for presenting clothing in the intended way for photoshoots, fashion shows, and media campaigns. This can involve anything from static posing to delivering an artistic performance. There are different types of models:

  • (Editorial) Magazine models are experts at posing in front of the camera, as they appear in fashion magazines.

  • Runway models perform in fashion shows, where it is important to work well under pressure and walk with confidence.

  • Fit models act as human mannequins. They try on clothes and provide feedback to designers.

  • Plus-size models are models with larger body measurements.

  • Parts models showcase specific body parts, such as hands or legs.

  • Glamour models focus on sexuality and are featured in pornographic magazines or used to present lingerie and swimwear.

  • Alternative models have unique features and strong personalities that do not conform to conventional beauty standards. This includes models with piercings, tattoos, or shaved heads.

Show & Event producer

A show & event producer is responsible for the setting of fashion shows and events. This includes planning and coordinating the sensory elements of an event, as well as securing the location and sending out invitations.
